TOUCHED BY A VAMPIRE
(ETERNALLY YOURS BOOK ONE)
Sunday, August 3!
“Well, Dr. Reynolds,” a sensual voice said from behind me. “It is indeed a pleasure to see you again.” I closed the chart, unable to believe what I was hearing. His voice should not be so familiar, not after just one night.
“Mr. Steel,” I said in my most professional voice, turning to face him. “The pleasure is all mine.” I tucked the chart in my arms. “To what do I owe the honor?”
“Well, I was here finalizing my business with Drake and saw you here,” he said in his buttery English accent. Man, he was as sexy as hell! His shirt collar was unbuttoned, showing just a hint of chest hair under his light blue shirt, setting off his open black Armani suit. The jacket was open, reminding me of his hard muscles lying beneath his shirt.
“What can I do for you?” I asked, trying to sound professional, even though my heart was racing. I hoped that he wasn’t able to hear it.
“Well,” he said, running a seductive finger along my arm. “What are you planning for tonight?”
“I have to work,” I replied curtly. I turned to walk away when he caught my arm. I looked both ways down the hallway and we were alone.
“You work too hard.”
“Someone has to save lives,” I replied, trying to sound unmoved by his gorgeous dark good looks, but failed miserably.
“I had a wonderful time last night,” he began, running his fingertips slowly from my shoulder to my waist, gently bushing the side of my breast. “I want to see you again.”
“I’m afraid that isn’t possible …” I said, walking away.
“Look, just one date,” he said, stopping me. “I want to see you again.”
I turned to face him, hugging the chart to my chest so I wouldn’t be tempted to reach out and touch him. “Out of curiosity, what do you have in mind?”
“Well, I own a casino,” he said, matter of fact. “Would you like to go?”
“What casino?” I looked both ways to make sure that no one was coming.
“I’ll pick you up at your place at eight,” he said, stepping away. “Be ready … and don’t be late.”
I laughed at his directness. He was a man who was difficult to say no to. “No,” I said. My arms were still folded around the chart; I didn’t trust them.
One side of his lips curled into a half smile. He turned the full force of his green eyes to mine, clearing enjoying the exchange. “You know, I could compel you to go with me …”
“Mind control,” he said, his eyes never leaving mine.
“Oh, is that what you did last night?” I didn’t look away.
“What do you think?” he asked, his gaze never wavering.
I took a deep breath. “You wouldn’t do that to me.”
He smiled mischievously. “How do you know?”
“I just know.” I wouldn’t tell him this, but I wanted him too badly last night … and it wasn’t from compulsion. My eyes traveled involuntarily down his frame and I noticed the tight bulge in his pants and quickly averted my eyes.
When I looked back up to his eyes, his lips curled into a confident smirk. “Be ready at eight …”
He took a step closer, a smile playing on his lips. He raised a hand up to my shoulder and let it trail lightly down the full length of my arm. “What can I say or do to make you change your mind?”
“Ask me, don’t command,” I said, enjoying standing my ground.
He chuckled, then said, “Dr. Leila Reynolds,” he began elaborately without a hint of irony, “would you do me the honor of your presence in accompanying me to my casino tonight?”
“That’s better,” I said. Satisfied, I took the chart from my arms and walked away.
“So, are we on for tonight?” he asked as I walked away.
“Pick me up at eight,” I said over my shoulder without turning around. I heard him laugh over my shoulder, as the sound of his boots resonated down the hallway behind me, walking away.
